Pepper Place Featured in Condé Nast Traveler's Spotlight on Birmingham

National travel publication highlights Birmingham's food, arts, and cultural scene, including the Farmers Market at Pepper Place.

Birmingham is receiving some well-deserved national attention in the October 2026 Condé Nast Traveler feature, “Birmingham, Alabama, Is Called the Magic City for Good Reason.”

Written by Leslie Pariseau, the article explores the people, places, and experiences shaping Birmingham today, from its industrial history to its growing reputation as a destination for food, art, and culture.

Highlights include Pepper Place and the Farmers Market at Pepper Place, featuring the vision of Sloss Real Estate CEO Cathy Sloss Jones and celebrated Birmingham chef Frank Stitt, who helped establish the Market over 25 years ago.

The feature also recognizes Pepper Place businesses, including The Son of a Butcher, Back Forty Beer Company, and Odette Collective, illustrating the mix of food, retail, and design that makes the district a destination for locals and visitors alike.

For Sloss Real Estate, the recognition is especially meaningful. What began in 1988 with the redevelopment of the former Dr Pepper bottling facility has grown into a walkable district of restored historic buildings, local businesses, restaurants, and community gathering spaces.

Birmingham's story is complex, and its history still shapes the city we know today. Features like this offer an opportunity to celebrate another part of that story: the creativity, collaboration, and sense of community that continue to move Birmingham forward.

We're proud to see Pepper Place included in this national recognition and grateful to the businesses, farmers, chefs, artists, and community partners who continue to contribute to Birmingham's growth.
